Importance of soft skills in an interview

Can you discuss a time where you had to manage your team through a difficult situation? Or what is the most significant problem you have solved in the workplace?

STAR interview response technique:

  • Situation: Give context about a situation you faced in the workplace and what led to the situation unfolding.
  • Task: Discuss your involvement in the situation.
  • Action: Describe how you acted in this situation and how it affected your mindset toward accomplishing your goal.
  • Result: Highlight the outcome of your actions and the way your behavior led to the outcome.

 

Though hard skills show off your experience and understanding of a particular and measurable ability, soft skills often indicate your ability to work with others and grow within a company. Soft skills help you build relationships and solve problems to use your hard skills to their full extent.

Soft skills are not just important for growing your reputation; they can also contribute to your employer’s reputation. The soft skills determine the success of your social interactions, the timeliness of your work and your ability to mediate conflicts on behalf of your employer to build a great reputation.
