Online learning pedagogy has been a big-time debate of concern among the parents and students since last year due to COVID-19 and its various unknown- mutating variants. In the name of education, parents strongly feel that it has led to the piling of responsibility on them for it demands constant learning of new online channels yet platforms such as interacting via E-mail, updating and upgrading oneself with the newest features of Zoom, Google Meet, Google Classroom, Skype, etc so as to keep themselves and their children updated. This drastic change has undoubtedly led to the migration of the learning environment from physical to virtual classrooms with ‘e-learning’ becoming the new normal.
Face-to-face interaction has been part of our education system from the basic to a higher level and that is why it is considered more effective by everyone. Undoubtedly, it is more comfortable to sit and learn in a classroom rather than a virtual classroom but 2020 taught us that we have to step out of our comfort zones in order to promote incessant and safe learning. Yes, sometimes it is difficult to understand the concepts across the screens of laptops and mobile phones but the online mode of teaching also gave us a chance to educate ourselves irrespective of the lockdown and from the comforts of our homes.
Over the period, it has been observed that e-learning has enabled to make sure that if one desires and wishes to learn, he/she can study and conquer their dreams by just sitting at one corner of the house. As a result, one can say that the pandemic-prompted lockdown has made teachers, students including parents realize the need for an hour- “where one learns while following the norm(s) of social distancing.” Also, since time memorial learning has been time-bound. However, today online education has made it possible that all one needs to learn is a device that supports their classroom platform with a good internet speed connection. In addition, it has also given way to the flexibility of time and freedom to choose one’s desired space wherein, with one click one gets admitted to the classroom. As a result, one can conclude by saying that online learning is as effective as offline learning for it also imparts excellent education and ensures learning never stops.
Everyone wishes to get back to the offline mode of teaching but as responsible citizens, we all must practice online learning until the pandemic is completely over. As of now, it is very unsafe to study in a room full of people. Why travel from one place to another?
Why risk ourselves and our families when the same can be done from the safety of your homes?
